Greek Essay for Germany

“My personal resolution” tolerence in life

Tolerance provides an opportunity to learn from others while respecting and valuing their differences in religious and ethical beliefs. As a value it has formed the cornerstone of modern Europe and allowed us to overcome many of the divisions which cost previous generations that much.

Tolerance is important these days than ever before because younger generations especially have the opportunity, through the social media, to listen to music and know people from all over the world. As a result the internet helps most people to accept other nationalities and get to know different lifestyles from their own. We are no longer limited to the world that we grew up in and the ideas that we  have learnt from our parents and friends. This means we have to learn to accept and tolerate a wide range of ideas and beliefs, some of which may differ widely from those we already know.

Personally, I believe I have become a tolerant person because from a young age as I got to know people who live in the same country as me but their nationality was different to mine. Getting to know them and seeing a part of their lives gave me the ability to accept different cultures and traditions. More recently, having the experience to meet people who struggle because of the war in Syria, and helping just by giving them some food and water as I did during this summer taught me that people are equal and should be treated with the best way possible.

If people are not tolerant then they often become narrow-minded. They do not accept anything different from what they think is normal and so people from other nationalities are often judged harshly by them. History also has shown that people with low tolerance sometimes try to get rid of  everything that is not the way they want it and people who are not the same as them. This has led to an enormous amount of suffering in the past and we should try everything to avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future
Tolerance is a wonderful thing and people should be more accepting not only because it brings peace to the world but also because is beautiful and exciting to have different lifestyles and different opinions. Nobody in this world is the same with somebody else because every individual has grown in a different way and has experienced a variety of things. Imagine just how dull our lives would be if we could only experience foods, music and ideas that we had grown up with and nothing else?
